    A detail of a plant which covered a whole rockery in Tacoma, Washington.  From a distance, the carpet of purple blooms was striking, it's just as interesting up close.
    I had heard the song Crimson and Clover by the Shondells, but I didn't know there was such a thing as Crimson Clover until I saw these guys in North Seattle, Washington.  Each bloom was about 1 1/2" tall on top of an 18" stalk.  Striking at a distance, it looked like little individual flames up close.
    They tell me these are called Digitalus or Foxglove... I call 'em Faery Bells.  These were growing wild in the shade near Lake Sammamish, Washington.
